You just saw President Trump do something long overdue. He banned CNN, Politico, and MS NOW from the White House. Not because they criticize him. Because they repeatedly publish fiction and call it news. The First Amendment protects the right to speak and publish. It does not give any outlet a constitutional right to a hard pass, a seat in the briefing room, or a place in the press pool. Access to the people’s house is a privilege, not an entitlement.
Every president has controlled it. The only difference now is that this president is using it against outlets that spent years lying about him. This morning a judge temporarily restored their credentials. Watch what happens next. They will treat that ruling as a license to keep doing exactly what got them thrown out.
The Constitution was written to restrain government, not to force the President to host people who treat the truth as optional.
