Back in May, George Peterson sat right here after the Supreme Court refused to hear his case. In June 2022, ATF agents raided his Louisiana home and gun shop. They came in looking at paperwork, but the only charge they ever brought was one homemade, unregistered suppressor locked in a safe.
He got 24 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release. The Fifth Circuit ruled that suppressors are accessories, not arms protected by the Second Amendment, and on April 20 the Supreme Court denied cert. Then, on September 3, President Trump granted George a full and unconditional pardon. George says the fight is far from over, because the National Firearms Act is still on the books and the Fifth Circuit’s ruling still stands. Whatever last night’s results turn out to be, the work of keeping a Republican Congress behind President Trump’s agenda, and getting Second Amendment reform done, starts again today.
